Its cold today! its windy today! These were the initial greets as the team started to arrive.
A different team set up today with Mad starting at the back and the idea was backs and forward potentially having a bit of a swap round, as god seems to have made so many defensive players this season! But with a late pull out from J9, who decided to scale Twickenham Stadium instead, meant that that idea is on hold till another match.
Sarah made her daybue as a sweeper and didn’t do too shabby a job at all
Some of the team were already a bit edgy as OCs were their previous team, but on their arrival there were lots of kisses and hugs, lulling them all and me, into a false sense of security. But normality was restored when Narla and the two kids showed up.
It really was a game of two halves. Sue had some cracking attempts at scoring, but the keeper was a long limbed human and managed to keep those out. But potentially playing higher up the pitch could mean that Sue could knock Jenn off the top of the leader board for goals!
There was some outstanding play in the first half with really wide play and the ball moving from side to side of the pitch. The defence held their position and having Sarah as sweeper allowed the defence to play high at times and support some great attacking play. With Mads running up and down like a greyhound.
Halftime came and went and we lost our shape on the left, which was held well by Emma, but when she stepped off, it seemed to make us a little awkward and for a period of time things were hard work. This half saw Rae use her head to try and remove the keeper to allow for her fellow team mates to try and score a goal, saw Mandy receiving tape to the knee and a classic SJ log roll to feet. But the goal for us just didn’t come, despite some amazing tries.
We had a little pitch excitement, with Zandie, obviously missing Jenn’s energy sharing her love openly with one of the oppos forwards. Who then in anger tried to stick the ball at Zans, but topped it and it bobbled the wrong way, causing me to laugh loudly.
All in all it was a really great game played by the team and exceptional play by the defence to keep the score to a 0-0 line.
Just for the record, as the team walked off the pitch, dripping with sweet and the sunshining, no one was saying its cold
